Why I'm Bullish
Here's my take, and yes, it's provocative: if you're a developer in 2026 and you're not experimenting with autonomous AI agents, you're falling behind.
The "agentic" future isn't some sci-fi speculation anymore. It's an open-source project you can npm install tonight. People are already using it to:
- Triage emails before they wake up
- Get proactive reminders about calendar conflicts
- Monitor their home labs and get alerts via Telegram
- Automate repetitive dev tasks without lifting a finger
Is it perfect? No. Is it occasionally terrifying? Absolutely. But so was sudo rm -rf the first time you learned it existed.
The Trademark Drama Was Actually Hilarious
Anthropic asked the creator to change the name because "Clawd" was too close to "Claude." Fair enough - trademark law is trademark law.
But watching a viral project scramble to rebrand while crypto scammers launched fake $CLAWD tokens, GitHub handles got sniped, and the community collectively lost its mind? Peak 2026 internet chaos.
The project is now called Moltbot. The crab shed its shell. Life goes on.
The Real Question
Security researchers are right to flag the risks. Running an AI with system-level access requires trust - in the model, in the code, in yourself.
But here's the thing: self-hosting is actually the safer option.
Your data stays on your hardware. You control the permissions. You decide what the agent can access. Compare that to cloud-based assistants hoovering up your conversations to train their next model.
The question isn't "should AI have this much power?" It already does. The question is: who controls it?
I'd rather it be me.
Where This Goes
Moltbot is just the beginning. We're entering an era where AI assistants don't wait for commands - they anticipate needs. They don't just answer questions - they take action.
